Hi CCF
In a nutshell I got in a pickle over a bunch of Amazon.com credit. I have $200 or so. Definitely wanted to pick up Chuck's book, but also looking to buy a bunch of "unsearched" wheats or something off of there.

Of course these are pretty expensive in comparison to ebay. Perhaps I'd just buy copper bullion off there, coin tubes, coin supplies, same deal, even pre-1982 "lots" of cents, ridiculous.

Anybody have any ideas of what to get?

Perhaps I'll just buy a stereo microscope so I can finally go through my huge hoard of copper pennies for varieties? Problem is I get obsessed about the best deal and I'll jump to ebay and notice something is cheaper then get uninterested.

Variety searchers please advise

Unsearched for what? I have some that are unsearched for rpms, omms, dd's etc. but there are certainly no key or semi key dates...

I used 200 dollars in Amazon gift cards this week to buy a copy stand for coin photography. I've never used any of the microscopes so can't give any feedback there. I also purchased the kindle versions of the Red Book & CherryPickers Guide so I can access the info easily on my phone.

I would be leery of paying $$ for "unsearched wheats". More than likely, you end up with avg. circ wheats worth a few cents each
I''m convinced that by now, most bulk LWCs have been searched several times. The exception would be finding an actual cache of wheats in someone's attic--I mean a real one, not those sold on ebay. I haven't been lucky finding RPMs in bulk wheats, but perhaps some collectors here know a good source?

You can go with a VEHO Discovery USB Microscope, Its around $100 and you can search all your coins I think a lot easier with one of these. I've got a Stereo Scope and I love it but the Veho is so darn attractive because the camera I got with my stereo scope isn't that great and to much of a learning curve to work on right now.
You could also invest in a coin:)

I find the stereo zoom microscope most useful. I do have a camera for it, but don't use that. I have a separate camera that I use. With the microscope you can identify many more coins. I also have a usb microscope, but the image quality is not as good.

As an optician and son of a 3rd generation optometrist, our family owned practice carries/can order the high end magnifying/picture taking options. Pretty much if it's a notable brand we stock it. After tryin out the higher end ones for coin collecting as well as the "middle" price range ones, I've found that a quality loupe or my personal Eshenbach magnifier works just as well or better than most most microscopes for coin purposes. If you are looking for picture taking abilities, I've found that a quality scanner provides the best quality images (for me) compared to the optics used in our office aside from medical imaging.

Of course it's your money to spend, just thought I'd chime in about the downside of more expensive models and how you may be able to better spend your Amazon money or save it for when you need it most.
Rest in Peace

I've had Amazon credit and as far as I know it doesn't ever expire. So take your time. And there's nothing that says you have to spend it all at once. Just buy enough that is fullfilled by Amazon to get the free shipping. :)
