I came across these US cents in my pocket change. I am not an error collector but these stood out. Can anyone tell me what caused this raised area around the rim? Is it something common and is there any value to this? thanks

Very common in the 80's. I believe it is Die Deterioration but there is no extra value.

Thanks. This something I never see in Canadian coins. Now that I know it's common, I will just roll them and send to the bank.
