To best describe it, it would be like someone started from the bottom with a "cheese grater" and sliced it upwards. The reverse striations are going in 2 directions and don't line up with the valley on the obverse.

Looks like struck through fabric, but reverse looks like file marks.

Strange, if nothing else.

I at first thought it was some sort of planchet flaw when I first saw it but now I really have no idea. Some parts looks like it could have been done post mint and others I am not so sure about. I will have to leave this one to the error experts of the group as I do not collect not know allot about errors at all

That is an unusual find, good one for Mike Diamond.

It appears to be a split planchet. Whatever happened there appears to have been prior to the plating. Remember that all zinc blanks receive a bath of copper plating, and this entire coin's surface is copper. The lines on the reverse are likely there because the planchet was not full thickness when it was struck.

If it had been abraded enough post-mint to remove that much material, the zinc would be exposed. Maybe it was crushed in some kind of vise? The edges of the depression on the obverse are more-or-less straight. If the damage was pre-striking, I would expect them to be more distorted. But I agree, Mike Diamond is the guy for this. Do we have some kind of bat-signal for him?

This cent was crushed between two textured surfaces. It's not an error.
