I love this coin. It's exactly how I want a 179 year old circulated coin to look. Too often these coins have been harshly cleaned and look like crap. Even better...no distracting marks, hits, rim dings! Someone really cared for this piece. Some might argue that the diagnoal hairlines across the obverse might be intentional...I'm not so sure.

Bust Halve experts - I'm guessing the Overton is the "common as dirt" variety, but I'm curious to know what it is and the R# rating. Thanks!

[Please ignore the glare from the 2X2.]

Are the diagonal lines "adjustment marks" material was shaved (filed) off because it weighed too much after coining? Or maybe cabinet drawer friction marks?

I like the color of the Half as well!

I'm thinking it's something like cabinet friction; I don't think it was from an attempted cleaning.

The best diagnostics to narrow down the choices are always the relationship of the stars and the A's to the segments.
Since the segments are worn smooth, I believe this is an O-106 R.2 based on:
Obv 6 - date is low, 18 wider than 833.
Rev F - 50 unusually close, left side of T and right side of I in line, several stripe lines extend to 2nd crossbar, top of S in motto filled on some specimens

I too like the looks of this half (but CBH's being my favorite series, I must say I like them all). That being said, the diagonal lines on both obv & rev could be a sign of an old cleaning but I will wait for the experts to chime in on that issue.
