Can you guys tell me if this is real? I hope it is, I bought it as it is. But a fellow member has had some doubts. I know the pics aren't the best a camera with a loupe, but you should be able to tell. Thanks for any help!

Ergg! How can I make these pics bigger?

Take the photos with the highest detail your camera will allow and then you can either resize them with the paint program on your computer, or with the image optimizer on the forum.

Let's see if these show up a little better, a little "fuzzy" (sorry about that fuzzy317);

That one has definitely seen some circulation and as long as the silver I'm seeing from the obverse rim dings is light reflection, I don't see anything else I'd question heavily. Not sure about the grease, but very weak strikes on the reverse are sadly much too common. Tiny, aren't they? I wonder how many have been lost due to that very reason back in the day?

They sure are tiny. Much better than the golden dollars we have today!

I would think it would be a Grease Filled Die on the reverse, since the surrounding details are pretty well defined.

Did you weigh it? It should weigh 1.672 grams.

The coin should have a 13 mm diameter too.

Are the edges well reeded?

I weighed the coin earlier today, my scale only goes in to tenths, so it weighed 1.6 grams. Within the range of a circulated coin.

And yes, the edge of the coin is reeded.

These coins are very tiny! It is very hard to pick the coin up! But all in all, they're nice coins.

Dates on the type I and type II dollars were often weak because they were opposite the highest pertion of a relatively high relief bust. These thin little planchets just didn't have enough metal to strike up both. Typically the date lost out.

I say it looks authentic to me from the photos. I am no gold expert but I have an example of this type in my album and it comparing the two I don't see anything that would cause me any concern
