I just received this 1917 Type II SLQ in the mail today and would like to hear what the CCF thinks about it. I would give this one about a MS63. Do you think that this would qualify for a Full Head? Edited by oih82w8 01/27/2012 08:18 am

Great coin.
The reverse has a small rub, but that obverse is a knockout.
I would think MS66/67.

It's hard to find nicks or edge dents in this one! I would really be interested what a TPG would say. But which one? Do you look for a TPG that you feel sure would give it a higher grade or, do you go with a very strict TPG that you feel sure that would give it a lower grade?

Wow, gorgeous. Now I'm going to have to sit by my mailbox and see if I get one... ...If you do send it off, let us know the results. I'm anxious to see what pcgs or ngc say...(hint hint)

Absolutely gorgeous coin! There appear to be slight hairlines below the eagle's left wing on the reverse (perhaps that is what Las_Vegas_Larry was calling a "small rub"). Are those evidence of a prior cleaning/polishing or just innocuous marks from circulation?

ANACS would be the frugal choice (direct submission with no club to join), I do like the look of NGC's four-finger holder (I placed a want for these slab holder inserts in the wanted section) and edge view. PCGS is always a great choice as well. I may have to plop down the fees ($125 per year and 5 free submissions) for NGC, and send in my Type I for a possible upgrade from ANACS older small holder MS63 FH https://goccf.com/t/101510, plus another three.

She is a beauty. I'm not great at grading, but I guess somewhere in the MS-62+ MS-63 range. It would be higher except for those scratches on the reverse.

IMO PCGS/ANACS/NGC are all fine options. Strictly in terms of value, the eye appeal really shows well and will command a higher value even if PCGS sticks you with a MS62. That's my opinion, anyway.

Hmmm...rethinking PCGS vs. NGC (time to re-read some of the archived threads NGC vs. PCGS)

Great coin!
NGC and PCGS will always command higher prices graded than say an ANACS graded coin.
Keep us updated on what you are going to do!

Very nice coin! It doesn't look like there are too many marks. There are some wispy hairlines on the reverse. MS-63 may be about right. FH for sure.
