Hi All,

Saw these coins close to 30 years ago in mum's safe deposit box. Mum passed away year an abit ago and I have since inherited them.

Appreciate if anyone could help with its identification and offer any further info.

Thanks in advance.

to CCF. I can't help much but to say I think they are medals not coins. Stick around and a pro will chime in soon.

Yeah, they're medals.
Here's one on ebay that looks a little like yours, but still different.

I'm thinking they commemorate a ruler somehow, either because of coronation or death.

The first medallion would be refering to a particularly venerated monk. The date at the bottom of the reverse is BE2463 (1920AD). I'm afraid my wife couldn't translate any particular details. You find a lot of commemorative medallions produced in Thailand to some particular monks but not usually of that size.

The second one features a portrait of King Chulalongkhorn (Rama V). If the number below the three-headed elephant refers to the RS date 166 this would translate to 1947AD but the significance is lost on me as he died in 1910.

I'd say they are both temple pieces and would only be of some value to the (many) collectors here in Thailand.

By the way, welcome to the forum, Seafarer and vason.
