2001 CoA coins were well known for all this doubling.

The Rev of CoA 1999, 2004, 2007, 2008 & 2009 all have it to a greater/lesser degree, as do the Millennium coins.

The first ones I noticed it on were 1999, but it could very well be on earlier coins too.

With the 2001 coins, have a look at the Roos spine, just below the head. Some are quite jagged and someone named them "roozilla".

The dies were all been used waaaaay past their use by date.

As Nancy (the resident errors expert) has said these coins (i.e. doubling etc) are common for the 2001 'Australia' federation 50c coins. I think with the high mintage figures they just kept using the die/s well past its best.
