You have to be kidding me. This is not an error it's a mistake by one of the mint employees. In my opinion the 1985 in the pack de values it because the 1985 was a circulating issue and not a difficult coin to find. I would be rather peeved if I got this from the mint. It would have been sent back quick smart

Here is a similar one, a 1994 Mint set with a 1993 $2. http://www.ebay.com/itm/AUSTRALIA-1...em519cbb77b7 According to Macca's guide the Mint sets are worth several hundred dollars and proof sets worth several thousand. They even list error sets which have all the right coins but one of them is facing the wrong way. The coin collector in me doesn't see these sets as collectable. There is nothing wrong with the coins, it is just the way they are packaged that is in error.

Why for what given reason are these error coins / sets? There is nothing in the least bit numisticly interesting about these employee mistake sets at all. C'mon you people we collect coins for gods sake. This is like collecting a burger without the cheese on it. YO I got a burger without the cheese I ordered I found an error (gotta be worth big bucks now) Unbelievable I am of the opinion that these sort of sales are the spawning grounds of "Bidiots"

Quote: ok so can the plastic in those sets be opened? Not without destroying the packaging. Mint sets with incorrect coins are genuine errors. For those of us who are "pure" coin collectors these error sets don't have any interest. After all the actual coins are still standard coins. Clearly Trout is one of these judging by the may he cuts up his sets For those who collect the mint sets, packaging and all, these error sets are highly collectable. So just in case it is worth something in the future, I'm going to hang onto this.

I collect coins for 2 reasons. 1) Because they fit into my interest group and 2) Because of their investment value.
So I will purchase for either reason 1, 2 or both!
These sets fit into my "both" basket. I think to have a complete set of mint sets from 66-present you'd need this set to contribute to that completeness. But long term I think it is a good investment too. I'll hope so anyways, I own 3 of these sets. So fingers crossed ;)

Quote: YO I got a burger without the cheese I ordered You know when I was driving up to Brisbane we stopped at the Kempsey Mcdonalds for some dinner, and I ordered a chicken Cesar Wrap, and when I opened it, there was a bite missing, now I'm really regretting returning it to the counter:( It also happened at hungry jacks last month when I ordered a cheeseburger...but with no cheese, meat, sauce, pickle or onion - just a plain bun - that's practically a mint set that is missing every coin.

I really cannot understand the reasoning behind putting a premium on a simple packing error, probably caused by a RAM worker having one too many Carltons during lunchbreak Now, if you had a 1986 dime in a 1985 set, then you would have something
