I would say pennies... Some are easy to get... But I chose silver dollars, because thats what I'm trying to do now

I am all over the board so to speak. I like to collect coins that are little more scarce than pocket change. Errors, mules, key dates etc!

The most common for MOST collectors is the cent of course. The cent is a good start for a coin collector that doesn't have a large amount of excess cash. When I was a kid this is how I got started(pennies found in the pocket) Just as an after-thought,today I collect almost all denominations.

My vote : Pennies. Cheap and good for roll hunting.
Nickels, well, the pure nickel coins would work for collectors.
Dimes, silver ones. Other than that, not popular.
Quaters : Collector coins in circulation.
Halves : Not in circulation anymore, so usually not common for collectors.
Silver dollars : Not every collectors like them. Unlike in the US, you can get them in the bank at face value. They're expensive in Canada.
Nickel dollars: No way!
Loonies : Collector coins. More and more common, because they get old quickly, so people collect them for grade.
Toonies: Not worth it.

I would say quarters first, lots of different releases in the past 12 years and for those who like older coins you can still get a silver coin for an affordable price. I agree with Darryldarryl no one likes dimes..... unless they have very good eye sight

Wouldn't turn away from any coin penny through twoonie and SML but main focus in coins is dollars silver, nickel, loonie and commerative

If we're talking about "coins", then
=> QUARTERS!
then 50 cent pieces
then silver dollars (they only start in 1935, so although they are big-n-cool, they aren't very old ... no Vicky's)
Ummm, and then I'll clump-together => "the rest" => pennies, nickels and dimes are obviously still valuable and awesome, but other than collecting them via complete proof sets, I haven't really concentarted on these individual coins
NOTE => but "Paper-Money" is my true poison!

It sure do look like the lowly penny is the winner.
