Hi everyone, I am new to coin collecting and this forum. I have only recently gotten into buying Cdn coins and mostly I buy different sets and series from the RCM. My goal is to one day pass along the collection to my daughter once I have assumed room temperature. Without a heck of a lot of thought I just bought 10 sets of 2001 specimen complete with packaging and COA. The stock market me says the retail value was $500 so buying 10 sets for $150 is a good deal. Now, what can I do with my sets that would generate a return of the money? I would like to keep one set for my permanent collection with maybe one or two spare sets. Any thoughts are great.

Cheers!

I'm not an expert on these sets, but in a quick check on ebay I found where the last 2001 Specimen Set to sell went for $16.40. I also checked a couple of dealer websites and found that one listed the set for $20 and the other for $13.95.

If these prices are representative of the current market, you will likely need to hold onto your sets for some time before they show an appreciable increase over what you paid ($15 each).

The original issue price on this set was $39.95 but most of these sets now sell for about half of the issue price. However, @ $15 per set you paid a reasonable price if you wanted a set for yourself. Realistically, do not expect to make much money on your investment. Do not expect get more than $20 or $22 per set. If you sell them on an auction site like ebay, for these prices, after you pay ebay fees and Paypal fees, you should break even. Good luck!
