Every once in a while I check up on the US Mint's direct ship program. Haven't ordered anything since they started charging $12.50 a box. Tonight I went to the URL and got a 404 error: "The United States Mint could not find the page you are looking for..." Looks like they finally gave up on it.

Only slightly related, did you notice how the mint made a big deal about how they lowered the prices of the dollar coin rolls for 2012, but those prices are still more expensive than the direct ship program was?

What a surprise! I'm sure since no one was buying them, they decided to do away with it. Gee, I wonder why no one was buying them? Wonder if it had anything to do with them totally butchering the program?

The mint has stopped producing dollar coins for circulation. That makes the direct ship program pretty useless. It didn't exist to let collectors pick through uncirculated coins for free.
