i have 4 free coin grade coupons to use and didnt know what I should send in. I have 4 1959 proof sets and was wondering if I should cut out one of the franklins and get it graded? is it worth cutting apart a 59 set? I have tons of other coins I would like graded as well but since these coins are sealed and guaranteed untouched I thought it might get the best grade. a high graded set of 5 coins would be at least 10 times more valuable than the original set, wouldnt they.

1 of the sets have a cameo quarter. one set has a cameo franklin. and one set has a cameo dime.

or should I send in the full set and get all 5 slabbed.?
i have never had a coin graded before and have no idea where to begin with my collection.
thanks for your input.

"Free" or not, check the potential value of a slobbed coin. Cameo proof might be worthwhile, but I would seriously think about sending in anything worth less than $100.

i have been doing the research, you wouldn't believe how much time I spend doing it, but I cannot say for certain the difference between say a 67/68 /69 coin especially if its in plastic like these. on these frankies it would mean a difference of low end $45 and high end possibly almost $700. the one step really can jump/fall in value. as far as I can see though there is not 1 flaw in this coin but obtaining that high grade sometimes seems like personal preference of the grader themselves. I've seen some real crap coins grade high and a lot of the time mine would blow them away.

I don't see any cameo on this farnkie. Also grade wise I would worry that the strike is not that strong comapaired to this one I just found on ebay

Don't feel bad, the TPG can't tell the difference, either. Anyone who doubts this statement, send in ten ms70 crackouts, and see what happens. Better yet, send them to a different TPG.

And that's why the TPGs won't define in detail about those grades on their web site either.

You could send in the cameos and have a slabbed cameo set?

1959 isn't an expensive set though, but since you have the 4 free coupons, you are just paying for shipping both ways.

It is a tough decision. I personally wouldn't do it, but I would prefer to use them on much more expensive coins, if you have any. If not, then it could be worthwhile to send them in.

Or take them to a dealer that specializes in those slabs and get an in person opinion. That's probably your best bet, since most dealers don't charge for that service.
