I haven't seen an email on this specific scam, but thanks for posting it. I get tons of emails of ones that are quite similar each year though.

I got a scam email a last week that said my HS Biology teacher from last year was in Spain, and her hotel burned down along with all her possessions, and she asked me for 1500 Euros to get by...

I remember reading about this a while back, and I think the "Universal Automatic Washer" may have just been lemon juice or citric acid.
