The Million Dollar Coin -- a true milestone in minting

Incredible, but true: in 2007 the Royal Canadian Mint produced the world's first million dollar coin. The 100 kg, 99999 pure gold bullion coin with a $1 million face value was originally conceived as a unique showpiece to promote the Mint's new line of 99999 pure 1 oz Gold Maple Leaf bullion coins. After several interested buyers came forward, the Mint decided to make a very limited quantity available for sale. To date, five of these majestic gold bullion coins, weighing 3,215 troy ounces each, have been purchased by investors from Canada and abroad.
In October 2007, the Million Dollar Coin was certified by Guinness World Records to be the world's largest gold coin. The coins are manufactured at the Mint's Ottawa facility, where the Mint operates world-class gold and silver refineries, securely stores gold bullion and mints all Royal Canadian Mint gold bullion products and collector coins.
The reverse features an elegant, hand-polished maple leaf design by Royal Canadian Mint artist and senior engraver Stan Witten, and the obverse bears the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by celebrated Canadian portrait artist Susanna Blunt.
Why did the Royal Canadian Mint make the world's purest and largest gold bullion coin? Response: "Because we can".

To date, five of these exceptional coins have been sold.
The following is copied from a June 2010 article:
At the current gold price the coin is worth approximately US$3.95 million by its weight alone on the weekend gold closing price, but it could well fetch more than this. The coin is being auctioned by Austrian auction house Dorotheum. Given the strong interest in gold at the moment in Germany and Austria in particular, expectations for a strong price performance are high.

The million dollar gold Maple Leaf is .99999 pure gold. The coin was originally produced as a promotional product to give the mint a higher international profile. It was conceived as a one-off showpiece to promote the mint's new line of 99.999% pure one ounce Gold Maple Leaf bullion coins but after several interested buyers came forward the mint announced it would manufacture them as ordered and sell them, at the time, for between $2.5 million and $3 million. Initially there were five confirmed orders for these special coins.
I know a little about the stories behind 2 of these coins,
First coin
The coin which weighs 100 kg and measures 50 cm diameter (size of extra large pizza). The new owner had a craftsman make a wooden coffee table with this gold coin as the centerpiece of the table.... what a conversation piece ...
Second Coin
The owner went bankrupt and the coin was re-sold as part of a bankrupcy sale.

Why does that not shock me that someone who bought 3215 ounces of gold went bankrupt?
Rest in Peace

For spot, which is all I'd expect it to bring.

At least the premium on either of these would not be too high!

I think that I will just have to wait for the spot price to fall a bit before I will buy one. THEN I will seize my opportunity!

How about the premium on one tonne of 1/20 oz gold bullion coins?

@sel_69l The premium will depend on whether you want to wire transfer the $$ or use a credit card!

But the credit card bonus miles may outweigh the premium, so you may want to use a credit card.
Make sure you do it during a double or triple miles promotion.
