I was at a shop today and the owner had bought what he thught were 1903 India One Rupees. They were not silver and appeared to be contemporary counterfeits. Anyone know anything about these? I am considering purchasing them but I cant find any info online in regard to where they may have been made or value? Thanks in advance.

I have seen some of these on ebay before, not sure of the exact dates. They are most likely Chinese counterfeits and are meant to deceive as they are not stamped copy or replica. If so, they would have no silver content. I would double check the weight, diameter, and if it is non-magnetic. If they are fake, I would not want them in my collection. If I were to pass away someone might think they were real and try to sell them as real and might get into some trouble As for price for fakes, I have seen between $1-$3.

You misunderstand... I KNOW they are fake and have no silver. But if they are contemporary and not modern fakes I, by all means, would like them in my collection.

Personally I do not buy world contemporaries if post 1825. They are too common. But if they fit your collection or mimic the regals in your collection ... there is no right/wrong.

On occasion I do carry world CCs. See my E-Bay postings.
