Good evening all,
I have found a coin in some of my grandparents (deceased) belongings. I have tried to research this coin online, but although finding some that seem close - none seem to match correctly.

The coin appears copper and says "North Wales" on the side with a faded harp and the date 1761.

The other side has a bust of who I assume is King George the 3rd facing to the right. With the words "GLORIOVS III VES" or "GEORIOVS III VES"

I have found similar items online saying this is an Irish token - but the dates online all seem to say it should start in 1766 not 1761 like my coin says. Also, the spelling of GLORIOVS or GEORIOVS seems different than any other items I can find online.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you all.

This is one of a group of coins known as "evasion halfpennies"

This older thread:

explains them very well.

Its an Evasion Copper. See Colonial Coins/Evasions in Google. You go to the Notre Dame site. Search for Evasions. A new book is coming out shortly which will update the 1892 Atkins Appendix listing book. Way overdue. A guy name Cobwright England has the best collection. I did own the finest farthing collection ... maybe second to Cob.
