Submitted for your approval, my other favorite coin from my rediscovered collection. Probably my most recent purchase, but didn't post it to that thread, as the auction was still during Reagan's first term. The fantastic "trident" of die breaks about the date are what drew me to the coin long ago, and probably kept other bidders away. I've since been able to identify the die marriage and educate myself about it. This obverse (called "Obverse 13") started showing these cracks in its earliest die state, but was ultimately paired with seven different reverse dies. Her cracks lengthened along the way, but with what I think must be an example of true Quaker frugality at the Philadelphia Mint, she was not retired until she had failed completely. When this coin was minted, she had been introduced to all seven of her partners; forgive me for thinking of her as "Snow White." Such a late die state results frequently in poor strikes, which has made grading difficult for me. From what I've seen of Heritage auction examples, the reverse stars and eagle's breast feathers look good to me, though. PCGS CoinFacts has three of this variety side by side, in VF25, VF35, and XF45, I believe. The E PLURIBUS UNUM is clearest on the one in the middle. What do you all think of the grade? The surfaces?

Fantastic coin indeed! I do not have the depth of knowledge to offer an educated opinion to your inquiry ... but I do have a depth of collecting interest to recognize something special. Appears to be original surfaces to me ... gotta love the hand punched date ... with that 'high' 8 in the date. Great coin ... looking forward to the experts chiming in. David

Outstanding Love the die cracks. Also appears to be die defect lines inside stars 11 & 12.

Very nice coin, looks solid for VF-35. Color is great and reverse seems fully original. The obverse shows some parallel vertical hairlines, possibly from an old wipe. I don't expect they would rise to the level of a defect for third-party grading purposes. Excellent!
So, what else is lurking in your re-discovered collection?

Almost retook the pictures because of those hairlines. They jump out because of the two bright, close light sources on either side. They'd probably look like horizontal lines if the lights were top and bottom. As to the rest of my collection, must admit I didn't start here with the middle of the pack. No 1797 gold eagle I'm holding back. I'll see what I've got, though...

I would think this is closer to XF/AU with all that hair detail and reverse eagle detail, but I'm not a pro at grading these. Definitely worth sending out for certification, as there are many fakes of these. Nice looker!
