Did the Denver mint have problems with their mm in 1992 & 1993?

Are these die chips or PMD?

Thanks, Jim

Plating splits that let to zinc rot. Seems like the adding the mint mark to the die instead of punching them in by hand would have removed the problem. But it didn't in these two cases.

Ok, thanks, learned two new terms tonight, plating splits and zinc rot.

Isn't it a little unusual for zinc rot after 1990?

I agree it is not normal. Extra value? The coin is breaking down.

Coop,

Thanks for the great progression photos. Do I understand it correctly that the rot will actually progress as your photos depict?

Some have added acid through a hole in both ends of the edge of a coin and make a hershey's kiss out of it. It's just a matter of time.
