I get my annual bonus at the end of this month. I've never placed an order with any of the online houses but I am thinking of using some of the bonus to buy a $100 bag or two (maybe one quarters, one halves).
What's the turnaround on these types of orders? Shipping costs? Any online house particularly better or worse than the others? Are you generally satisfied with the coins provided in such a purchase? I don't expect a bag half full of rare dates or anything, but neither do I want a bag that is full of extremely worn coins!
Thanks, Earl

Barry G has gotten a few bags of halves an wholes lately I know, and he should be able to give you some insight on his pickups, from APMEX as I recall seems like.... I know if I personally was going that angle it would be a real easy choice if cash allowed. Via a hundred even mix of Morgans an Peace dollars, rare dates meaningless, and if one did slip through so be it....

at APMEX you can actually choose which coin type you get. Its a little more, and I don't know their shipping charges.

Shipping charges at APMEX are very reasonable and the cost of, say, a $100 bag of Walking Liberty half dollars is currently at $2,729.04 (credit card price). Goldmart has even better prices if you don't care what type of coins you get ($2,415.06 for a $100 bag of either dimes or quarters), but you pay a significant fee for paying by credit card and paying by check is extremely slow.

Thanks guys. I'd love to get dollars but I just figured there'd be a premium for them? If not, I'll definitely look to get a bag of them. I absolutely love the silver dollars. They are my first memory of silver coins from when I was a kid pilfering my mothers coin jar and then using them at face value...if my boys did that now they'd be in soo much trouble :)

Make sure you check out local dealers. I missed out on buying silver in 2009 since I was unaware of a local dealer about 3 miles from my house that sells any face amount of 90 percent for 3 percent over spot and uses .715 to factor the cost. At the time the 2 or 3 online places I checked were only selling 1000 face for around 7000. Plus shipping and had to wire funds. Ended up getting some 2009 double relief eagles from the mint instead which ended up a good investment but I woud have had about 500 face in silver which was really the $s I wanted to spend. Just make sure you check locally. Coins in hand you see your purchase and no shipping or bank fees

Will do Angel. There are a few local dealers I frequent and will spend some with them. Also looking at maybe doing a deal with a fellow CCF member. Thanks, Earl

You're very welcome. For me basically the best price when you factor in everything. And always a place to sell quickly if ever the need be. If you have 3 check them out first! I was lucky with the big drops in price as well. Many online showed out of stock and I have heard that some places charged higher than the price difference with spot but I was very lucky to have availability plus price. Plus they count them out and you can remove any you don't want. You can also buy what ever denomination

SilverTowne, Provident, and APMEX all have $100 face bags of coins at decent prices. If you want really nice looking AU or BU coins, APMEX often has those too. Shipping seems to run from about $12 to about $25 depending on order size and seller. Turnaround will be 2 weeks if by check or 3-4 days if by CC or wire. I have ordered from all 3 of these and have had good luck with them.

I agree with angel2004, I was just at a local dealer and to my surpise his prices beat goldmart and APMEX and I was able to look at the stuff and no fees. The silver dollars had a slight premium but a price comparible to APMEX cull dollar prices and these were a lot nicer. Check locally.

Plus another benefit to buying locally with established dealers is it keeps small business alive and well and storefronts open!

I bought a few dollars of 90% for $24 per dollar of face from the local shop on Friday. I asked about a volume discount, he doesn't give discounts until you buy a thousand dollars of face. YMMV
