Why can't this be a rare version/strike of this coin worth a couple hundred? I think that must be what it is. lol Tonight or tomorrow I'll try to get it next to another nice "regular" bicentennial I have.

Thanks everyone for the help/insight.

I agree that maybe you should get a picture next to another coin for comparison.

Alright, below I have this coin, then a regular bicentennial. Since I took the time to upload a picture of the "regular" one, can someone tell me how they would grade the regular and any value to it? :)

The coin on the right looks like it is in better condition to me... The one in question on the left still looks strange. Like it has small pitting or something, the surface seems rough as opposed to the one on the right. the left one just doesn't look original to me. Let's see what others say.

I suspect your coin is simply well polished. I think the "strange texture" people are reporting is just signs of wear.

Just as an experiment, I took a very worn Bicentennial Kennedy half dollar (the rims are completely worn smooth) and tried polishing it up a bit with a jeweler's cloth. Here's the before (top) and (after (bottom) pic:

That bottom coin of your experiment has a similar color to the coin that is in question.

Thanks Barryg... that's probably what it is. It's sad because this coin was in nice condition before they decided to shine it up.

Any value on the other one I posted? Or grading?
