I am going to divest myself of my entire UK coin set and want input on what you think the best approach is. There are coins from 1733 forward, including unc and proof sets from the 70's and 80's.

Should I sell the whole lot?
Sell unc and proof sets separately?

Is it better to auction here rather than some other auction site?

I hope this is and these are appropriate questions for this thread in this forum.

the coins are on photobucket at

http://s558.photobucket.com/albums/...0Coin%20Set/

I have no idea why photobucket cannot/does not load pictures in sequence by name.

Thank you,
Jim

I think a listing of the coins in addition to the pictures might help folks provide more advice.

I couldn't find the "1550 Groat/Shilling?" thing in your photobucket.

1. Since you're citing a date it's gotta be a shilling, those were dated (in Roman numerals), groats were not.
2. Groats of Edward VI were not issued past 1549.

Here's the coin. I plan to sell it to a member of the forum and forgot to take it off the inventory list.

After a lot of research and discussion with others, those in the know were split down the middle, Groat? Shilling?

It's undated and the date was a guess.

Thanks

One set I would suggest you list on its own is the 1953 Coronation Set since 2012 marks 60 years since Queen Elizabeth the II took the throne. I have no idea of how much the set is worth.

My guess the groat/shilling is the 1560 (second issue) of the Elizabeth I groat without the rose and date.Is your first image upside down? The crown appears to be at the bottom of the picture.

Well, a picture, much better.
I see why the split of opinions - because both options were wrong.

First of all, it is Elizabeth (the poor woman is upside down on the top pic), so it would be after 1558.

It is not a sixpence b/c those had a rose behind the head on the obverse and a date above the shield on the reverse.

It is not a groat b/c groats did not abbreviate Elizabeth, nor they had an escalope for the mintmark (by the time this MM was used the production of groats dwindled out).

The obverse legend: ELIZAB:D:G:ANG:FR:ET:HIB:REGI
The reverse legend: POSVI DEV ADIVTOREM MEVM
That fits the fifth issue (1582 - 1600) of a shilling. The escalope MM puts in the 1584-86 range.

Check the diameter, should be slightly above 30 mm.

Sell the sets individually on ebay or CCF
Sell the more valuable singles on ebay or CCF
Sell the less valuable singles in groups to your convenience, on ebay or CCF

How did you acquire them? Perhaps that is the clue on how to sell them (back).

Usually, more effort to sell on your part means more return to you.
Human foible. When we want to sell, we want the cash quickly, which often implies selling all together, usually for less cash.

Have fun selling them instead! You had fun acquiring them!
Rest in Peace

I am interested in the 1922 and 1933 farthings. It's not much, but a start. Are you putting these into a sales format here?
