Hey Guys! I have been working on my cent book for around 4 years.. from just coin roll hunting. I have found pretty much everything from 1940 on up. As far as the earlier years they are pretty spotty.. with the 30's half filled in and then less from the 20's and so fourth. I was just wondering if anyone was able to ever get most of their coins from coin roll hunting excluding of course some of the really really hard to find ones.. is it possible to put a set just about together? Thanks! :)

Very unlikely. Search for the thread on cents found in rolls.

I started the same thing 20+ years ago and I'm still at about the same place as you, just adding new coins to the books. Still fun to do, though. :)

I am new here but I have been reading this forum for sometime. I am recently retired from the US NAVY and I started roll searching about a year ago. I bought my dansco album 2 weeks ago. I have been very lucky to find all but 8. obviously the 1909S-VDB and 1909S and a select few early teens. Any help or advice. I am currently on Indian heads and have been fortunate to have that almost complete.

It took me over 25 years just to complete the 1940 to date set. Had all but two the first ten years. I found the 1970s Small Date back in 2009 and found the 1960 Small Date about a year ago. Never tried the .1930 and back, but have found in rolls recently a 1909s, 1913d, 1922d, and 1924d. All of those in the same roll, by the way.

I've searched about 400,000 cents and I have 40 holes left in the Dansco to be filled by CRH. All are pre 1940 except 1943s, 1955s, 1960 small date, and 1970s small date. Some highlight finds for me are 1909 vdb, 1911d, 1924s, 1926s, 1931d and 1932d.

Advice for you guys: yard sales! I have almost a complete set of at least one per year from 1911 to 1958 (my big thing is LWCs), and this is no thanks to me but mainly because of my boss. When she was a kid her brother was a collector, and when he lost interest, his coin books came into her hands. She let me have about $30 worth of coins (some nice Indianheads, a silver dime, a bunch of LWC) for $10, most of them still in books. I popped them out and put them in flips, but you can go through and find almost every year. Check yard sales, flea markets, etc. and see if anyone is selling their old books "just to get rid of them"--you never know what'll be in there!
