The left sides of the first and second columns show either die chip or doubling. Any ideas or are my eyes playing the normal wannabee where it isn't.

Your eyes are fine and the photo is great but I don't know.....how does the rest of the coin look? If you have a really nice coin, then maybe there was something wrong with the die, but as the dies age the coins they make start to look different -- wider letters etc., then maybe that bit of mess is just from a worn die. I'll check back to see what the experts have to say.

I checked the CherryPickers' Guide and there's nothing like that for that year. You might try checking one of the Lincoln Cent sites. Maybe they can give you more information.
