Are you talking about original hobo nickels or modern hobo nickels?

Not sure if they original hobo nickels or modern hobo nickels ,the one I seen somebody carved a face on it. looks like on a Buffalo nickel

"originals" may not be the most accurate term. It might be better to call them "period pieces" or some such. The great era of handmade hobo nickels (made by "hobos") lasted through the 1980's. These guys made thousands of hobo nickels from their camps (or even in prison!). These guys made hobo nickels to sell to collectors, so I don't feel they are any less legitimate than modern pieces made by hand (versus machine-made items).

Yesterday I was at my local coin store, and I saw an original hobo nickel going for $500.

I like them but only at lower prices,  I would like to get the book before I purchase any expensive ones.
