My first ancient was a Denarius of Antoninus Pius, modius & corn ears reverse, VF. Paid $4.50 for it in 1967.
Did not have a clue what I was buying at the time; turned out to be a really nice coin. Can't really call that a 'find', more of a 'stumble across'!

From the land of the Bluenose.....man that is so far away. 40 years ago I would have to go with the flow and say it probably was a penny!

Not exactly found with a metal detector, as I was way too young for that... But first coin ever found, that started intriguing me into coins was a very strange one: 2,5 Cents Electricity token Second World War from my hometown of Venlo in The Netherlands made out of zinc (mintage: 200.000). As I did not know what it was, I wanted to find out.. It took me more then 10 years to find out it's worth nothing lolllz, duh... but it is priceless to me Long live internet

probably a nail. Best first find was an 1819 Matron Head Cent. Other favorite find includes a farm token from the early 1900s that has my great grandfather's initials on it
