Sorry Bruce...I was hoping that you'd understand my reference. I was trying to pin-point how close we probably are. I'm in Dreamland Villa (DV) and closeish to Leisure World. Maybe we could plan a trip to our favorite shops and meet someday. My husband and I go coin shopping about weekly or so. I use to go twice a week or more but, I'm working M-F now at the CVS on the corner of Recker and Brown. I'm in the Pharmacy. I guess the answers have all been given as to the price of the ASE's so hopefully, noone will mind that I'm waaayyyyyy off the subject! Whoops!

ClearWater Coins you CAN'T buy uncirculated ASE's directly from the Mint. All the mint offers is proof versions of the coin.

I'm confused then as to what is available in March/April on the mint website? Or am I missing something with this statement? Are you talking the 2006 ASE?

What 64 is saying is you can only buy proof silver eagles from the mint they do not sell business strike silver eagles to the public. Bruce.

I called the US Mint in 2004 to see what was required to buy SAEs directly from them (doesn't hurt to ask - right?).
The Mint Director actually returned my call.
Needless to say, I still can not buy directly from the mint.
Some small details like proving a net worth of $60 million and providing my own armored car service.
The mint website does provide a list of direct buyers.

To become a United States Mint Authorized Purchaser, your firm must meet the following financial and professional criteria, which must be attested to by an internationally accepted accounting firm. Be an experienced and established market-maker in gold/platinum and/or silver bullion coins. Provide a liquid two-way market for the coins. Be audited annually by an internationally-accepted accounted firm. Have an established broad base of retail customer base in which to distribute the coins. Have a tangible net worth of $50 million for Gold and Platinum Eagles, and $5 million for Silver Eagles. This requirement may be met using letter of credit. Have sold over 100,000 ounces of gold bullion coins over any twelve-month period since 1990. (This criterion is for becoming a United States Mint Authorized Purchaser of gold bullion.) Premiums and Minimums The United States Mint charges a modest preminum above the current market price of platinum, gold, and silver to cover minting, distribution and marketing costs. For the Silver Eagle, we charge the United States Mint's Authorized Purchasers the price of silver plus $1.25 per coin premium. Minimum ordering requirement is 25,000 coins. For the Gold Eagles, we charge 3%, 5%, 7% and 9% premiums for the one, one-half, one-quarter and one-tenth ounce coins respectively. Minimum ordering requirements are 1000 ounces. For the Platinum Eagles, we charge 4%, 6%, 10% and 15% premiums for the one, one-half, one-quarter and one-tenth ounces coins respectively. Minimum ordering requirements are 1000 ounces. http://www.usmint.gov/consumer/inde...ericanEagles
