I thought they dropped that also. I have a "first Day of Issue" One of 14,000 Certified MS70 coming. It does not take much to downgrade to MS69,a piece of lint or dust on the planchet or die when punched, a bump into another coin.I have looked at a lot of MS69's under 10x 15x magnifacation and have yet to spot what caused the downgrade.

It is a PCGS slab. PCGS does not grade American Silver Eagles with an MS70 grade.... Read my other post here... https://goccf.com/t/10667BTW, only NGC has changed from "First Strikes"! PCGS has trademarked the term "First Strike".

"First Strike" desgination is 99% hype and means almost nothing. Just a new twist to sell more coins in my opinion.

Thanks for the reply... Will the hype not help me sell my rolls in the future? Or is "unopen" going to be worth more than "1st Strike"?

booyah, To an uninformed buyer it might but most collectors are aware of the First Strike hype.Don't get me wrong,"First Strike" does not take anything away from the coin but I don't believe it adds anything either.

As long as there is a HSN, there will be a market for "first strike".

Actually,as much as I dislike HSN's coin selling tactics,I don't believe they sell any coins with the "First Strike" designation.

As far as I understand it, only NGC has agreed to dump the First Strike thing, and they are replacing it with "Early Release". I dunno if PCGS is going to do the same thing as NGC.

Coin Vault is on this morning. NGC Early release is the new terminology they are using. Currently doing the platinum Eagles.

As for PCGS, It's just hard to let go of a good scam. To look like the good guys, NGC quit one and just started another. Perfect, modern examples of "Snake-Oil" salesman.

I wouldn't even let HSN even come into a decision concerning buying or selling coins. The HSN almost went under a few weeks ago and ALL knowledgeable coin collectors won't touch a coin off of HSN. OVERPRICED and HYPE are their selling points but I can think of other words such as lies, fraud and deception that would also apply to TV, Magazine and Newspaper advertising and I have seen quite a few folks coming into our local coin shops to "cash in" on their valuable coins purchased through such scams. The walk away very upset (polite way to put it) when they find the true value of their purchase.
Put bluntly THERE ARE NO FIRST STRIKE COINS AVAILABLE FROM THE UNITED STATES MINT so don't buy into the lie!!! If you do you have NO ONE to blame but yourself. If the MINT were to create first strike availability they would offer them up for sale themselves and guarantee such first strikes but they are well aware of the legal issues surrounding such claims as one could never PROVE beyond all doubt the coins were or were not first strikes. Only serial numbered coins can be guaranteed beyond all doubt when they are struck.
