I seem to be acquiring a lot of commemoratives from the U.S. Mint. The question is, how do you store them? I have all these little boxes all over the place. I started with a shoe box and then a Tupperware container. I know Dansco makes an album for them, but rather not take them out of the original holders. Any suggestions?

My commems are in their boxes in a Tupperware container, so I'm not much help!

Kyra

Great minds must think alike. I have quite a few commemoratives from the mint (raw) and in slabs and I store them in the same way as Kyra. I also put in quite a few desiccant bags to help absorb any moisture (NJ) I think it helps immensely, but of course; if you had humidity and temperature control, then you are in really in tall cotton..
I also use a lot of sealable plastic bags to put things into.

I put all my commemorative coins into 2x2's and then put the 2x2's into the plastic album sheets. I use the self-adhesive 2x2's as I hate having to fiddle around with staples!

I leave all my Commemoratives in their original packaging. I then purchased one of those 4-5 drawer storage units with the slide-out drawers that you see at the office stores. They are inexpensive and small enough to stow away easily and hold a lot of the mint-boxed commemoratives.

I take mine out of their OGP and put them in lock & lock containers that I got off of QVC. These containers are airtight and water proof. Then I tie a piece of rope around it and go out to the back yard. I built the wife a koi pond about 5 years ago and it's pretty deep in the back. I drop in the lock & lock and I tie the rope around the foot of St. Francis who watches over the koi.

I met a uy last weekend at the coin show that wraps his in tin foil and puts them in his freezer in the basement. He says crooks would never think to look in there.

Actually, a freezer is one of the first places a crook looks. Lots of people put cash in a freezer.

Also, neither one of those environments can be good for the coins...

I take the coins out of the package and put commemoratives in a safe. Storing them with the original government packaging takes up too much space in my safe. I just put all the packaging in a box and store it away.

Yes the feezer is a popular place to hide cash. That's where the FBI found the $10,000.00 that the New Orleans congressman (who got re-elected) go figure, was hiding his bribe money. Wrapped in tin foil in his freezer.

I use a waterproof boating storage box. It's essentially heavy duty Tupperware that I can throw a lock on so that my 4 year old son won't play with my collection.

I suppose I'll eventually have to make room in the safe for my ASEs and proof sets, but they really aren't worth that much right now.

I was thinking of something like this

How-Do-You-Store-Your-Commemoratives?

These trays will fit in this box

How-Do-You-Store-Your-Commemoratives?

Question is...for the $1.00 Silver commemorative, should I get the 38MM or the 41MM tray?

Tim...absolutely! That's the type of case that I use for my commens, ASE's, ML's, Gold, Silver, etc. I have them all in air tites. I think the 38MM is ok for most commens that are in air tites but, if you put them into 2x2's you'll need the 41MM trays - the 2x2's don't fit into a 38MM tray - atleast not mine!

Tpatna,

Where can you find a case like that? That would save me so much room storing my commemorratives.

ps: ASE's are 40.6MM and most Commens run around 38MM to 41MM. Yes, where did you get that case (or going to)? Very nice one!
