when we were on holiday I found this coin it seems to be gold plated is it real or a fake any ideas

It appears to be just a normal US Presidential dollar coin.

If you're familiar with Canadian loonies, they're about the same color brass.

Your does seem to have been plated at some time.

I see no signs of past plating and have never heard of them being plated like the State Quarters are.It appears to be a normal environment damaged dollar coin. Being that it was found at the beach it must have come in contact with salt water.
