Not trying to start a political discussion here, but I've been reading a book by DR. Ron Paul, and found, through reading, that he's a coin collector.

I knew there was a reason I liked this guy.

He talked about how his father started plucking Indian Head cents from circulation when the cent changed. Later Dr. Paul counted them, 980ish, saved 20 bucks and bought them from his brothers. He said the reason he wanted the can so bad was that it had a 1909 S (didn't mention vdb).

What I found so true to his character was that he wrote that he knew he couldn't just take the can for himself. His father had collected them and he knew that the pennies belonged to him and his brothers. So he saved up 20 bucks and bought them from his brothers.

Pretty cool

They should boot him out of the US and send him to Australia

@ just_carl - I would assume the story is true, it was written by Ron Paul himself in his own book. I didn't post the title of the book here, because I didn't want to start a rant on political issues. But, the book is authored by Ron Paul, and this particular story was in context with the intellectual influences that shaped where he stands today.

I must say, It's good to see supportive comments for a great champion of liberty and freedom.

According to his Wikipedia article...

Quote:
He also co-owned a coin dealership, Ron Paul Coins, for twelve years with Burt Blumert, who continued to operate it after Paul resumed office.[53][54] He spoke multiple times at the American Numismatic Association's 1988 convention.[53]
