Moe . . I think you should wait til a better example comes on the market. This would bring down the overall average grade of your collection. But in all seriousness, please educate me on the pricing. Only 12K minted & who knows how many remain but asking price is comparable to Red Book AU-50 and Numismedia XF-45 values. How do the guides come up with values? Is it careful research or the SWAG method? (Simple Wild A$$ Guess)

I can't see anyone NOT wanting this, but I can't see anyone having the means to purchase it. (pardon the triple negative)

I don't know They probably have prices from past years, and see if the overall trend for that date or type is up or down, and by what amount, and adjust the yearly price. Or something like that...

You may get a better price on his website. I saw it yesterday on there and he has a make an offer button on there as well. Here is the link http://www.davidlawrence.com/invent...792/allAuc/1 It shows the last one he sold was a MS-63 and sold for $87,400.00 on 3/7/05. I looked on Heritage and the last one that sold on there was a XF-40 by PCGS that sold in Feb. 2 2012 and it sold for $86,250.00. An AG-3 example sold on Heritage last October for close to $30,000.00

I dunno, something about the one pictured in that listing doesn't quite look "right" to me.
Both the PCGS slab and the coin itself.. something about how the barcode on the back has bars that have peeled and the patina around the stars.
The seller looks *quite* reputable, though.
In either case, not in my budget. :-)

The rarity seems surprising to me considering the mintage. 12k made but there's fewer than 100 known survivors?

Could I ask a favor from all? ebay and other auction sites are blocked from my "business" computer. A high percentage of threads on CCF link to an ebay auction and the discussion follows without one clear text mention of what is being discussed. I have no idea what is being discussed here and on most of those other threads... and I'd bet there are others in with similar limitations. How 'bout a one liner about the link? And for those of you who are asking why I'm here during my work hours

Quote: something about how the barcode on the back has bars that have peeled The barcode is a DLRC auction inventory sticker, not part of the slab.
