Great suggestions guys. Unfortunately cc99999's ideal collection is a bit out of my range for now. Wouldn't it be great though. NUMISMEDIA's Fair Market Collector's Values is a very good resource I didn't know about. Are the values there retail or wholesale values? Lastly, other than an ebay store mentioned in another thread the only mail order coin store I know of is Littleton Coin Co. Why are their prices for Ikes so much higher than the prices in Coin World and Numismedia? Thanks again, Jim

Jim,
There are still some beautiful Eisenhower's out there that have not been graded yet. The only trick is learning how to grade Ike's and the patience to look though a lot that are pretty beat up. I have been able to find some incredibly nice ones at coin shows and in local coin shops raw for a considerably small fraction of what one would have to pay if they were graded. However I do not know how much longer one will be able to do this. The Eisenhower Series is seriously picking up steam in spite of what the bigger Third Party Graders do.

Everyone, your comments are very encouraging. At a local coin shops board auction I picked up: '73 Au Proof for $16 '73 Cu-Ni clad Proof for $4.50 and '75 and '77 proof sets which include the Ikes. I ordered the small Ike book and it arrived today. Then I found a 20% off code from LuLu and ordered the Big Ike Book. - Jim

One of the best investments you could have made is getting the books Just reading through them one time will put you light years ahead of most people on the subject of Eisenhower dollars. Great Pick ups on the board Auctions I am not sure how I feel yet about Daniel Carr's Fantasy Piece coins that he mints at his shop, The Moonlight Mint, The 1975 Eisenhower, The 1964 Franklin and the 1964 Peace dollar,They are cool looking but to a new collector that knows very little about the hobby something bad could definitely happen.I guess that is where the knowledge about the hobby and particularly the series that one chooses to collect comes in real handy. Just being a member of any coin forum and asking if one of those was a rare coin, you would get a flood of responses warning you exactly what they are. His Parody Coins that he mints a very cool, They crack me up Check these out for a good laugh http://www.dc-coin.com/parodystatequartersetc.aspxHe does a number of different cool Fantasy Over Strike Coins http://www.dc-coin.com/fantasyover-...sacoins.aspx

I liked my fantasy 1975 Ike so much I got the silver 1970 one also. Both of these currently reside in my album's unlabeled holes.
I wrote Mr. Carr and he said he wants to make more fantasy coins, but they will have to be ones that the mint almost made or cancelled making in order for him to consider producing them.

I agree. They look cool, but they make me feel a bit uneasy for the same reason.

stewart: Those parody coins of Mr. Carr's are great. Thanks for pointing them out. oih82w8: If I hadn't been looking at Ike forums and such I would have easly fallen for a '75 Ike! The small Ike $ book: It's all for the hard core Ike'ofile, perhaps someday for me. I read a couple of the chapters of the Big Ike book under the articles on the Ikegroup site. My conclusion is that it's as good for a new collector in general as it is for the Ike information in it. - Jim P.S. Brent-Kurger has a note on ther website saying they're selling out.
