Was checking a few listings last evening and opened one for an 1878 Morgan. A pop-up immediately appeared "User Authentication" with a spot for the userid and password.

I clicked on the x box to delete the pop-up and proceeded. I re-clicked on the page to see if this was an anomaly and the pop-up reappeared. Reported it to ebay.

Never, Never, Never enter your userid/password if you see this! I suspect this was a hijacked account from someone who entered their userid and password on a similar pop-up. The cancer grows.

I encountered something very similar to that last year, it was actually a virus on my computer that would pop off every time I tried to visit ebay.com but never showed itself any other time.

I registered with ebay back in early 1997 (a great site back then)... In April of 2006 I had a ebay Coin Store with a direct link from my store to my PayPal account that had been hacked into and these b@stards somehow blocked me from accessing both my accounts... The end result was that after both accounts were unfrozen, I closed my store on ebay and closed out my PayPal and Checking Accounts (also had to change my credit cards)... When ebay refused to provide me the necessary information on the person/persons so I could pursue legal action against them, claiming they were prohibited by law to release personal information, I was done doing business with them...

Careful. You can still get something bad installed on your computer by closing out malicious popups and ads with the close button (the red one). When you can, try closing ads/popups through Task Manager.

Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I'll pull the ethernet cable out of my modem when I get a suspicious popup, turn off my browser & run a check on my system.

Better being paranoid than spending a lot of money getting your comp cleaned or even having to buy a new one entirely because of a virus or infection.
