This was probably the first one off the dies. Probably none other look like this for the date and quite possibly for most dates. I don't think the price is totally outrageous for what is really an outrageous looking piece. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...110825721130

That exact coin moved twice at Heritage: For $27,600 in 2005, and for $20,700 in 2009. At $23,000, I'd snag it so fast your head would spin. You're very likely right that it was the first (or among the first 5) off the die. The seller himself is a bit bothersome though. Let's see about his current offerings: Hmmm. A hot water heater. A potty training seat. A few Milwaukee cordless tools. And, oh, yeah, two five-figure PCGS-slabbed coins. His record is spotless, and he's sold stuff hovering around 4 digits. More of a buyer than a seller, and only one coin sale on record (a nice PCGS ST Gaudens). I'm not distrustful, just a little weirded-out.

It is odd to say the least that this guy who deals more in water heaters than coins comes out with this one.
Beautiful coin.... Suspicious listing.
This would be better seen on Heritage or a similar auction site.

I am quite content to admire coins like that from a distance. There is a lot of responsibility in owning a coin like that. You need security, climate control, white gloves etc. etc. If you can afford such pieces as your base standard of collecting, then more power to you. I could have a whole lot more fun with $23k than just purchasing one spectacular coin that I could never hold in-hand or show off at parties. It would be so out of place in my cigar-box stash that my big old well worn coppers would be turning bright red from shame and looking for hiding places under the furniture.

Quote: I wouldn't be ashamed to own this coin I wouldn't throw rocks at it myself either. That is a beautiful coin, I would have to sell my house to afford it though. EDIT: I just noticed his nick.. R-U-A-Twin-Coin, wonder how he came up with that Quote: Sweet coin from the Rod Sweet Collection I notice that coin isn't included in those pictures of that collection. Everything that is not gold has a 1882 date

I have a friend who gave me more information on this coin. Evidently, it did not CAC. Possibly because they think it's overgraded. Possibly because the frost may not be up to perfect Deep Cam standards.
According to my friend, if it's overgraded/designated, it's a $12K coin. The pictures might be juiced a bit and not show some toning that would be less than appealing on the surfaces. Not sure, but he noted that there was some unattractive toning (in his opinion) on the coin.
Those pictures are mind-blowing if that's how the coin remotely looks in hand, though.

No image Matchbox...unless you count a red x in a box within another box.
Aaah no wonder..."imagebox" website ACCESS DENIEDThis is one reason why I don't like looking at CCF at work, the tempting ebay links. Thanks for the screenshot Bryan1315! And this is another reason I love looking at CCF at work; people who go out of their way to "show" these images!
