A "shadow line" going from I in UNITED to the bottom of the figure does look odd.

I don't see it, maybe just lighting, wanna bet the coin Brian? You buy it, and if it's not bent send it to me, if it's bent you can return it. Looking at this auction I think he is dreaming [eBayItem]200713763943[/eBayItem] he is pricing against PCGS graded coin, on a vastly over graded LWC, maybe a MS64RB on a good day from PCGS but more likely would come back MS63RB. That coin is probably worth less than half his starting price and no where near the BIN price. The full red has already started to go, paying big money for full red copper is very risky, and if you don't keep the coin stored properly it will change on you, many of my copper coins went from RB to BN living in San Diego for 10 years, even with desiccant packs (regularly recharged) in the safe. And yes they were slabbed, ICGS, ANACS, and NGC, my PCGS coins were the best off, surprising as the ICG is supposed to use intercept rings to prevent that, but again copper is not a stable metal. Buy the coin not the holder, though in both cases the gold dollar and the LWC they are overpriced for what they are IMO. I just hate people getting scammed, I once had a guy come to my table at a show many years ago, with lots of MS-65/66 Saints, they were AU to MS60 at best, and all in some basement slabs from an investment company that had long gone away. The poor guy had spent over $75K for about maybe $15K of gold coins. It was his retirement money of course and his wife was ill so he was looking to cash some of them in to halp pay medical expenses, so sad.

I don't see anything wrong with the coin, the slab looks bad though, NNC has a rep.

I don't know about bent but I do think cleaned and what strikes me as odd is the sharpness of the strike. The head is high relief on these coins and is seldom well struck up. This shows a little weankess on the hair around the ear, but then there is the reverse. The date on these type II dollars is almost ALWAYS very weak. The date on this piece is HAMMERED. Combined with the nearly full strike on the obv it makes me very suspicious of the coin. And I suppose it could be the holder, but for such a strong strike, where are the denticaled borders? I see a little of them on the reverse but that is all.

The denticles are probably hidden by the holder as is common in that style of holder and this small of a coin. Looks real to me, the clashes add to that belief. While these do generally have a weak strike, one of the main reasons they changed the designed in 1856, you can find ones with a good strike and this one looks like one such coin.

Centsles is still an ebay seller. This guy must buy coins from the basement graders and then try to flip them.
