I was checking coins I put away 40 years ago and would like any info you may have on this coin. The pictures are my first attempt with a handheld digital camera.

Wow, outstanding. I don't much believe in slabbing, but that is an exception.

Yes, get it slabbed, another member here had a 1954 Canada cent NSF had it slabbed and got a nice return for his coin.

But wait! If it is not in the ICCS Population Report, how can this rarity exist?

(Yes, I am being sarcastic, and yes, I told you so...)

Sorry, I could not resist! Very, very nice coin by the way. Yours looks to be perhaps VF grade, and should see some spirited bidding in any auction. Congrats on a nice find!

As you are in Canada, the easiest way is to send it to ICCS or CCCS. The cost is similar. With a coin of this value, I would drop it off in person if possible, which would suggest ICCS if you are near Toronto or CCCS if you are near Quebec. If neither is convenient, I would call them first to let them know it is coming and send it in by insured mail. I would say the two are equally well recognized and trustworthy. CCCS does a nice hard slab which this coin would certainly warrant. I wouldn't go to the trouble, cost and risk of sending it across the border to the US companies. I don't think for this coin it would impact the value. The grading on this is not so important. It is really more about authentication.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH SMALL CENT GUY FOR THE INFO. I will call them monday morning as dropping it off isn't possible as I live in vancouver on the west coast.

Perhaps take a look at dropping it off with a reputable dealer in your area. They might be able to expedite the grading process for a reasonable fee.

Best of luck!
