The frosting is way too coarse to my liking. Too much fine detail is lost.
For example, compare the hair detail on H.M. the Q. on an Unc circulation coin, and a proof of the same design.
That does not mean they are well produced; I think they are, it's just that the frosting has to be done with more sensitivity to the fine detail.

I totally agree with the detail loss but the proof has a huge advantage with the eye appeal

I agree with sel but still much prefer them to the UNC coins. They re very striking. All of mine are 20c and much the same as trouts so I won't bother posting pics. The pre 1985 bust is by far the best on the proof coins.

I also think the amazing Stuart Devlin Platypus design is greatly enhanced by the proof effect on the 20 cent coin

The 20c are the pnly ones I can be bothered with at the moment but I will no doubt move onto the copper once I'm done with them. trout, the platypus is greatly enhanced!

Hey everyone...I have reached my post of 100 with a post of my nice & favourite Proof, it's the 200th Anniversary or Rum Rebellion (1888-2008). A great coin to celebrate my favourite spirit (I've also got a couple of Commerative Bundy limited mint & release Bottles which are also going nowhere). The Bundy bottles, I would buy 2, one to drink & one as a keepsake. Here's a picture of the proof coin: The details for the coin are: The Perth Mint has released this special silver proof coin to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Rum Rebellion in Australia. The 1oz silver coin resembles Australia's first official coinage - The Holey Dollar and Dump, which was introduced in the aftermath of the famous Rum Rebellion. The mintage of the holey dollar and dump coin set is limited to only 3,000 coins. Each coin comes with a numbered certificate. The whole Rum Rebellion gives you a look into the colonial history of Australia, have a read in wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rum_Rebellion

2.83g of pure gold...love it. Would you take "Ten Dollars" as the coin suggests? It's only $147.24 worth of Perth Mint Spot Price.

Good to see I'm not the only one who would love to pick up RAM proofs at spot The "face" value isn't quite as glamorous as say $200 for a Koala (but then there aren't 50,000 proof copies either), so I'd have to be pretty hungry to lash out on a $10 feed with this Anyway, now we've got all bases covered: gold, silver, bronze, and... ah... Bundy lol
