I usually store my better coins in air-tites, but the high relief of Greek coins makes that all but impossible. Self-adhesive 2x2s look like good protection, but I like taking some of my ancients out to look at them. Does anybody use double-sided mylar flips? I'm thinking of putting notes on one side and the coin on the other--but are there good quality flips out there?

Mylar flips are OK, but they need to be stored in archival quality pages.

Cheap PVC pages are a NO - NO. Although the reaction takes place very slowly, (10 years or more), eventually bronze and copper ancients will darken to black, as the plasticiser in the PVC pages gasses out, and can get to the coins, through the Mylar of the 2 x 2's.

Look for the best quality clear pages from 'Lighthouse' or similar.

I use mylar flips. I bought a whole bundle of them off FORVM some time ago, and I'm slowly migrating my collection over to them.

For pages, I use photographic slide album pages from PrintFile. Excellent quality, and much cheaper than the ones marketed for coins.

I use the mylar flips. Ancients are meant to be handled! I'm using allegedly safe pages but will look into the archival photo pages with my next purchase.

Ancients have a lot more info to write down than a 1980s Lincoln Cent. Grade, date, Emperor, Obverse and Reverse types and inscriptions, composition, size, weight, etc. . . Even if you don't want to write down all of it, there's no way the leftover space on a 2x2 will be enough. You need a whole separate 2x2 just for the information! The very few I've bought from quality dealers have been professionally printed and worth keeping.

I've also written information on the back of the 2x2 card as well.
