Yep, they'll get 50% of the treasure, according to the french law :)
It's a nice bonus indeed, a half million !

And no, there is no surprise to come, the law is clear : the treasure was found on a private property, without particular tools (by luck) - which means 50% for the property owner, 50% for the one having done the discovery. There is just one thing that could happen (but it won't - the coins are common) : the country could ask to buy some of the coins for museums, they would then be appraised by specialists and the country would pay that price to the owner.

This find have nothing in common with the Odyssey's looting of the spanish treasure (from Nuestra SeƱora de las Mercedes) in the atlantic sea near the Portugal coast ... and not in the florida coasts according to the article's end.

Yes, I wonder who was the owner - usually in France we are more found of gold Napoleons or gold Louis (at least in the countryside - that's what I was hearing there when I was a child)
From what I understood, the house was owned by a champaign house - so I suppose they were wealthy back then, and could afford trips maybe ? (by boat ?)
It would indeed be interested to know where all this gold was coming from ...
