I picked up a Bicentennial Silver Proof set from a new coin shop I found today, and I just want to know if I got "stiffed" in the deal or not. I had no clue it was only 40% silver until I looked at the letter (the lady told me it was 90% when I asked ) I paid $24.50 for it and it came with a certification letter. I'm seeing various prices on E-bay, too various to determine for myself. I mean don't get me wrong, value is not the reason why I bought it, I just need to know if the price was set right so I can feel better about the buy.

I think it depends on the overall condition of the coins. Generally these coins in MS go for a little cheaper. If they were just amazing beauties then that may not be too high of a price.

if you know what you are looking for and find that you picked up MS-67 or above coins- then it's a great deal. Otherwise it's a 20-30 dollar item.

Yes, that is a fair price for the proof set from what I have seen. They are encapsulated still correct? Did you get the small blue cardboard folder that holds them with it as well?

Yes everything is the way it was when it came from the mint. I got the folder, the coins still sealed in their capsules which are attached to blue velvet holder (nobody has removed them from what I can tell, they are still firmly in place), and a nice little Certificate of Authenticity. The grade of the set appears to be right at MS 66, maybe a 67 or higher (I can see no major flaws that would say otherwise, such as nicks or dings on the coins) but then again I'm no grading expert. Overall the look of the set is very appealing, hence the reason I bought it for my collection I wish I could provide a photo somehow... it would help tremendously.

The NN edition from 2-28-12, in their price guide on page 29, lists the proof set value at $24.50. I looked on ebay at completed sales and most sold for around $20-$25 (including shipping). I think you got a decent deal.

I think that is a reasonable price for that set. It seems to sell for around $23-25 at coins shops around here. It can go from $16-25 on ebay.

You did not get ripped off at all. In fact if you happen to have a set that is in a high grade you probably got a deal.
