The 1860 s seems weakly struck on the observe looking like VF 35, the reverse looks XF 45 to AU 50. I will call it XF 40.

The 1872 s looks also at XF 40.

Thank you to all that responded!

I agree both of these coins are EF-40. They were ungraded when they came to me so it's our best guess! I do trust you all though!

Maybe we'll do the "53 Days of Seated Liberty half dollars" in the not-too-far-distant future!
Rest in Peace

I can't speak for the 1872-S because that originally came from me...but I think XF-40 is too low. It looks like the detail is soft more from strike than wear. I've seen this on heritage slabbed coins a lot...also it seems AT IMO.

I can see that on the 1860. Why? The reverse is so much nicer than the obverse. I also see lack of detail around the left shoulder and the weakly struck E on LIBERTY.

AT? Maybe. It didn't strike me as that when I first looked at it. (It may be my lighting in the pictures...)

Expert opinions?

I have a couple of questions (I am new to this series). On the old 1860, there looks like an outline around liberty. What is that?

Also, what are you planning on doing with the "old" ones?
