Two Cent Piece Coloring - Coin Community Forum

gmwatson Valued Member United States 234 Posts	Posted 02/19/2012 10:52 am I bought some Two Cent Pieces which showed up the other day and looked too good to not be worked on, but don't have a real eye for what colored coins would look like. I've thought of soaking in acetone to see if there were any changes to color thus confirming they have been doctored. I heard somewhere 80% of the Two Cent Pieces have been colored, but don't know if this really true. Does anyone have any experience with such and is it a good idea to try the acetone on these type coins? Report this Post to the Staff

If sort of a painted type coloring, might be easily removed with Acetone. If it is a toned coin from normal air and humidity, a different thing. Just got to have some photos of that.
