I was going to reply that it is not silver, but after seeing the seller is in China it could be. They may have produced the fakes from the wrong material.

I think he posted the wrong picture since it does have a nice clash on the reverse. Still, would not buy it considering where it is coming from!

The coin is very common and I'd wait for a problem free example. This one looks damaged/cleaned.

Thanks "staff" for helping with the title. I guess I got lazy . . .sorry. And I meant to say "cast?", but my autocorrect got me. So the consensus is that it is definately a fake? The feedback is awsome though. I am missing something . . . . What would a guy in China be doing with a Three Cent Silver? Jon

US coins can be found anywhere in the world so its not really uncommon to find classic coins somewhere besides the US. The reason some people say that the seller being from China throws up red flags is because allot of counterfeit coins come from there. As far as authenticity goes I do not see anything that makes me believe this one is counterfeit at all so it may be real , the clashing is very common on this series so it adds to the making me believe it is probably authentic) but as was said its not silver it is made of nickel (if its real) and they are very common even in super high grades so I would wait for a better example hat there is no question on authenticity as the price this one is at right now is probably all I would be willing to pay for a coin like this in this condition (and probably wouldn't want to pay that much)

with all the above. I don't see anything glaringly obviously bad about this coin. In fact, the reverse clash lends credence to the authenticity. However... I would not buy this coin. Why? 1. It may be counterfeit. China has many US coin counterfeiters. I feel bad to paint all Chinese sellers with the same paintbrush but the fact remains. Chinese counterfeits abound. 2. You may very well not get this coin (since the coin pictured appears authentic, IMO) but one that looks very close to it and now you're trying to return a coin to China. Difficult at best. 3. There are MANY U.S. coin merchants who guarantee their coins. Buy from them. Better yet, buy a slabbed coin if you're worried or don't feel confident in your personal Counterfeit Detection capabilities. This is not a rare coin type. Why chance it? It's not worth it. Just my

Wow Moe Nice Small Motto!
While I don't see anything suspicious with the 3 center, I agree with Moe why chance it on a common coin availible in the US from dozens of reputable s=dealers and sellers for the same price point.

Ah! I see . . . . . Not being familiar with the series, I didn't realize there were silver and nickel pieces. Duh. Silver 1867 go for many hundreds of dollars. I just flipped over to Numismedia and looked at Three Cent Silver . . . . They don't have photos on their guide. Good example of how an uneducated buyer could get burned. Anyhoo, I just assumed it was counterfeit. Never thinking for and instant that I am an idiot!
