What I want to get are various opinions on grading standards for the various anacs slabs. old small white, blue and the newest yellow.
have grading standards slipped over the years?
do the white small slabs have loose grading because grading was in it's infancy at the time.
do the blue slabs have the tightest grading?
i have heard all these views over the years.
buy the coin, not the slab withstanding, what is your opinion?

One thing that resonates in my mind: "grading creep."
This is the "so called" tendency for TPG to become more lenient about grades for the more popular coins.
While I cannot prove this, I wouldn't be surprised if this can be proven.
The advice to "buy the coin and not the holder" is not just simply an idle cry. It is simple, old fashioned good common sense.
If a potential buyer does not know the coin, he or she should cautious.
VERY cautious.

The caveat needs to be up front "buy the coin, not the holder" as already stated.

Now my opinion: The old white labels with green lettering were fairly consistent and accurate; the blue labels seem grossly overgraded; and the new yellow labels seem a bit conservative. There are exceptions to these generalizations, so that is why we have the "caveat" stated above.

Infancy? ANACS had been grading for nine years when they started using the white slabs and for 25 years when they discontinued them.

There was a change in their standards around 1984 which they admitted to in court, but that was back in the days of the photocertificates.
