My cousin needed a quick $20, so I traded it to him for this. What do I have here? It's obviously a 1977 series Richmond, VA $20 bill, but he said something about it being a head error, or small head or something. I am clueless and would like to lend to the experience of the users here to help identify this bill, and it's estimated value. Thanks!

unless I am missing something, it is just an older bill from before the treasury started making the new (supposed harder to counterfeit) currency. estimate value $20.00. hopefully I am wrong and there is something premium about your find. good luck.

It is a small head type which just means that it is an older note. I do not see anything special about it.

Hard to believe that so many younger people find these older notes unusual. Seems like only yesterday we were all saying did you see the new $20.00 bills yet?

Thanks for your responses. Being born in 1980, I am familiar with this particular bill but neither could decipher any "error" nor understand what he meant by small head (Calling it a small head in comparison to the $20s of today now makes sense of course, excuse my numismatic ignorance. He obviously didn't know what he was talking about either). Fortunately I only traded him a new $20 for it, and at this point I get the feeling that he was trying to "up-sell" it to me as some type of error when it actually is not. I will still hang on to it since the series is discontinued, but will tell him he's full of BS the next time I see him! Thanks again for everyone's help.

Haha.. Some people are just (for lack of a better term) ignorant. They really think they have something rare and can get money out of it. They just don't know any better.

Kinda like how I tried to convince one of my HS classmates that his 1941 Wheat cent wasn't exactly a rare treasure...

I was born in 1980 too. I remember when the new bills came out I couldn't help but feel like they looked similar to play money.

I remember allot of people saying the "new" design looked like monopoly money. It just didn't look very good compared to the small head designs everyone was used to, but after seeing them for so many years I guess we all just kind of got used to them and don't pay much attention to them until we see a small head note and then those same feelings come back on how funny money the newer ones look
