I obtained this coin in Germany in the mid 70s and was told it was from Siebenbergen{Transylvania}, called a "weasel denar." According to the inscription around the edge, it is a coin of Hungary. I have seen others like it with an inscription for Slavonia but never one from Hungary. It appears to be a silver issue,approx.15 m.m., and weighs .9 grams. What is the correct attribution?

Apparently a 14th or 15th Century item, but I am not sure.

The VNGARIA legend is listed as a rare variety of Slavonian coin.

Thanks DCH. I looked at the link, but the 2nd letter to the right of the cross appears to be a "U" or "V" which is not listed for any ruler. At least I know it's a Slavonia coin and earlier than I thought.

I'm sorry but in my opinion, your money does not look like the original. I suggest you to show this one to an expert. It doesn't even look like it's minted seven and a half centuries ago.

I have a few Denars from Hungary, know nothing about this one. By the looks of it, hand struck and all, I'd say 1300's-1400's.

Thanks everyone for all your input. I have since found some sites listing Slavonian coins, including MA Shops and Galgary coins on Vcoins site. The one shown below from Calgary is the closest to mine except for the inscription. It is attributed to Ladislaus IV (1272-90). Since mine is not magnetic and appears to be the right size and weight range,it is most likely authenic.

Kind of similar to my Scottish penny from 1286.
Same kind of look.
