it looks very nice to me, I am not that great at grading these things but if that is wear in the hair I will say AU-55

Nice type coin and I would agree the scratch should not constitute a "problem" for a TPG. If wear is present it's very slight. Apparent lack of luster would limit an MS grade. AU-58 I'd say, but could go MS-62 if luster is intact. If AU I don't think you lose much by cracking it out. If MS-graded I'd recommend keeping it in the slab.

I would say AU 50-55 somewhere. I have been looking at a lot of these coins and this one that I can see has little if any wear at the top of the Liberty or the hair above it. Not an expert by any means but that seems to be one of the wear areas. Pretty nice for a 162 year old coin.

OK, I'm gonna stick my neck out here.
I do not believe this coin has seen circulation. Given the known quality of Northeast Coin's imaging, and the known weakness of the star strikes, I've no trouble seeing this one as Mint State with a somewhat weak strike (far stronger strikes are seen for this coin). It's possible NGC wimped out and called it AU58 - no lower grade is possible - but for my money this one belongs in an MS63 slab, and it's only the cheek gouge stopping me from calling it MS64. I wouldn't be surprised to know NGC worried less about the gouge.

I see the slightest of wear on the hair above the ear and the curls on the neck. Those two points would take it out of the mint state level. There is too much detail for it to be in the V-XF categories. I'm settling for the middle of those two levels and saying AU-55.

I will go with AU-58. I think I just see a slight amount of wear in the hair above the ear.

To be completely honest, the first thing that popped into my head when I saw the pictures was it looks like a chocolate coin.
Either it is time for a snack or I had better stay very far away from this series.... for now!
