Here in Tulsa, I get traffic alerts via text. I just received an interesting text: Hwy 75 closed southbound at the Red Fork split because of coins in the road. Found the story on the news. If it were fidy cent pieces, I really would leave work...lol http://www.newson6.com/story/170123...-armed-truck

What I don't get....the economic cost of just the gas spent on the traffic jam will cost more than the coins are worth! What a waste of time! With all that salt on the road this time of year...it's not like those Zincolns will last long anyway!

Now that's literally someone's "dump"!

And to all roll searchers in the heartland: that doubling you're seeing is just PMD from the Loomis spill! ;)

That doesn't change anything. I'd still like those coins!

A while ago it was here too in The Netherlands, but with Banknotes (Ten thousands of Euro's) on the highway. People just stopped their cars and scavenged banknotes all over, and just drove away

But their was a local camera crew on the spot and a lot of people returned the money within a few days I knew what I wouldve done

I cringed as the brush slid them across the ground. How much money in pennies could that possibly be. That would have to be more then 1 bag......Right?
I know someone's getting fired on a Friday. Wonder what led up to this.

Bob:Hey John....
John:Yea.
(Bob opens the back door while in route to play a prank on John)
Bob:Made Ya look.. Oh *** Edited by Staff | The bad word filter is in place for a reason. Bypassing the filter and making the intended word obvious anyway is completely unacceptable. ***.....
Bob:Hold the door John, I think I can grab it if I just......NOOOOOOO

Why didn't someone think of getting a firetruck out there and washing the garbage off the road. The only reason to get them up at all is to prevent some lunatic from stopping to pick them up and getting killed. Wash them off the road and shovel the bulk into bins and be done with it. One man could do the whole job in fifteen minutes with someone to direct traffic.

People in the future will think we are utterly insane. We make garbage, pass it hand to hand, and then shut down interstate commerce because of a tiny spill.

All those pennies they are sweeping up will have the copper coating scratched and will be extremely dangerous to babies because they will be digested and thisa is sufficiently toxic to be fatal. Many doctors aren't even aware that pennies are made of zinc. 80,000 extra tiny little timebombs will be created just by impeding progress by something that should never have been made in the first place.

Fine the carrier, destroy these pennies and then destroy the rest of the pennies in commerce.

Problem solved.

Come to think of it where is the government on this matter?

These trucks should be placarded since they are carrying large quantities of dangerous material. Even non-toxic coins and currency can cause trouble when they are spilled and this seems to just get more common every year as the money becomes less valuable they take less care to keep it in the truck.

I just looked and there isn't even an MSDS for the pennies. These are highly toxic and many people are not aware they are zinc. There are numerous MSDS's for zinc products but bank and mint workers don't have these. I should think they should be readily available to anybody who has to handle these on the job. If we're going to spend billions for nothing then we should do it right.

I cannot believe the Troopers shut down an interstate for that little bit of mess... yet 2x4s, dead animals and garbage are completely ignored.

A lot of coins under car tires could pose a braking risk.
Otherwise, they're hardly worth the cleanup.

How did I miss that? They should at least gather them all up and make a deal with a TPG to make them part of the Red Fork Hoard or Red Fork Spill designation.
