Quote:I think a lot of people aren't understanding why the State Quarters won't be worth much over face value in the years to come. It is because so many millions of each design were saved as BU. Since there might be a few million collectors throughout the country and most won't collect them, there are more than enough for everyone, so demand won't exceed supply. Hence the price won't rise much, if at all. I'm not collecting them to make money, I collect them because I like the designs. Personally, I expect all coin values to drop the future which is why I don't purchase rare coins at huge premiums.

murrellington, I really loved your story about the prize drawing in your fifth grade class. I would have felt the exact same way. Alas, there were no State Quarters back then (1965-66).

just ran across a guy on craigslist that was selling a large quantity of State Quarter mint rolls still in the box and mint bags for $5 over face. He had inherited them and just wanted rid of them since there were so many. I tried jumping on the deal as soon as I saw it, but they were all gone within three hours. Maybe the guy you bought them from got them like this guy did or something. That sounds like a good deal to me though. I'd buy a set of unc for that.

Like more than a few of the posters here I really like the ATB Quarters so much that I have started two albums with four coins for each location, "P", "D", "S". and "S Silver". This series has also gotten me off my apathy regarding the State Quarter sets and am really considering on doing a circulation set for my own enjoyment. I have sent off for a Dansco album. Do you think that a person starting at this late date could put together a decent set? What do you also feel about getting a set of just the silver coins? Think that it is doable?

Hi Ghostrider, collecting ATB Quarters from circulation is possible, but it'll be tough, so don't get discouraged. The mintages are much smaller than the State Quarters and the ATB Quarters aren't circulating that much. You'll need to look through a lot of quarter rolls from various banks to find them. I don't have any luck at all in central NC. I've found some for 2010 over the past 2 years, but none since then. They are tough to find.

Ghostrider, re: the silver State Quarters, definitely doable, might run you about $400-$500 for the fifty-coin set, cheaper if you bid on individual states. It's an impressive set by itself without the other PDS coins. It's tougher now to find the circukating State Quarters in pristine condition at face, unless you happen to get lucky from someone dumping a collection at the bank and they end up in rolls. The six territories from 2009 are as scarce as the ATB Quarters, but doable from rolls as well.

....... I dunno.....I still think that finding BOTH mints in pristine BU condition from "the wild" would be REALLY REALLY hard to do.....whether you're talking 50 State Qtrs. or the ATB's. For "me", it was impossible really. I would constantly upgrade to a better conditioned coin every time I'd find the "harder to get mint".....but still, in the end, it was just an "okay" Set as a whole, for me, with that "circulation" collection I put together. It was "fulfilling", yes, to be complete finally, but not really aesthetically pleasing, if you know what I mean. If you don't care about "pristine condition" and having BOTH mints in that condition...... It would be REALLY easy to do though ! ...

I've been thinking about putting together a BU state set, but I'm working on a few other things first. I have a complete circulated set that my father and I put together out of our pocket change starting from the day they came out. It took a while, but we got it done. It's the worst looking coin set I have, but by far my favorite for obvious reasons. I can't wait until my son gets a little older so we can do the same thing.
